Weekly Update, August 21st, 2026

Hi Church, 

Our church participated in the Back-to-School event at Germantown Elementary yesterday. Our team handed out over 450 ice cream treats and interacted with the students, parents, and staff to kick-off our partnership with the school for the 2026-2027 academic year. Next week, we will provide lunch for the faculty and staff to congratulate them on their first week of school and encourage them for the upcoming year. Please pray as we seek opportunities to serve the students and staff this year.

75th Anniversary Celebration

Many of you have asked what will be involved in the 75th Anniversary Celebration and we have answers! We want to celebrate the goodness of God all these years! 

Saturday, Sept. 12 at 6pm, we’ll meet in the worship center for some hymns and praise songs from past decades, we’ll hear from previous staff members such as Betty Smith, on behalf of Pastor Roland Smith, Pastor David Orr, Pastor Dave Barrett and Christian Nuckels. We’ll hear some funny memories, learn some Weems Creek trivia, and a little about the history of the church. Then we will go to the multipurpose room for a time of fellowship and an opportunity to look at displays recounting mission trips, church events, building stages, previous staff members, and the history of the church.

On Sunday, we will hear from Pastor David Orr during the worship service followed by the annual church picnic on the hill behind the church. If you are planning to stay for the picnic, please sign up in the church app or at the Connect Center so we can plan accordingly. We are also asking everyone to bring a dish or two to share and chairs or a blanket to sit on.

New Sermon Series – Lord’s Supper

Jesus commanded the church to regularly remember the Lord’s Supper. It is very important. Join us for this two-part message as we explore the incredibly rich meaning of the Lord’s Supper and how we can better observe it for the glory of God. This series will begin next Sunday.

Serve Team Fair

God has made each one of us to be uniquely gifted and empowered in many different ways. Our church Serve Team Fair is the perfect place to see where your unique gifting may best fit in serving within the church. Whether you’re on a team or not, the Serve Team Fair is a great way to see all that the Lord is doing in and through Weems Creek Church – and perhaps, where God can use you as well! Join us Sunday, Aug. 30 directly following the service in the multipurpose room.

SonShiners Trip to Sight & Sound Theatre

The SonShiners will be going to see the live production of Joshua on Oct. 15 at 11am.  Tickets are $88.35 and you must sign up and pay by Sept. 13. If you would like to ride the minibus, it will leave the church at 7:45am. After the show they will stop at Hershey Farms restaurant for lunch. You can register and pay for your ticket in the church app or sign up at the Connect Center and place your ticket money in an envelope clearly labeled “Sight & Sound” then place it in the offering. Checks should be made out to Weems Creek Church.

Student Ministry Mission Trip

The Student Ministry will be going on a mission trip to Guanyabo, Puerto Rico July 3-9, 2027. This area is still devastated from hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017. Participants will be doing light construction to help repair and rebuild homes and churches. In addition, members of the mission teams may participate in community outreach through prayer walking, meal distribution, etc. This trip is open to youth (12 yrs old) and their parents. There are limited spots available (7 male and 6 female) so if you are interested in going, please sign up in the church app.

Fuge 2027

Who’s already looking forward to Fuge 2027?! The students will be going to Ridgecrest Conference Center in Black Mountain, NC July 19-23. This is open to students who will have completed 6th – 12th grades. The cost of camp is $375 and a deposit of $125 is required to hold a spot. Sign up and pay the deposit in the church app.
