Weekly Update, August 28th, 2026

Hi Church,

I had an excellent vacation, but it's good to be back and I'm excited about the days ahead. The countdown is on for the 75th anniversary weekend in 2 weeks! This Sunday, I will begin a two-part message about the Lord's Supper. Jesus gave this ordinance to the church and it has been a constant fixture throughout its history ... and for good reason! We will explore some important questions about the Lord's Supper and enjoy it together the following Sunday, September 6th.

75th Anniversary Celebration

Many of you have asked what will be involved in the 75th Anniversary Celebration and we have answers! We want to celebrate the goodness of God all these years!

Saturday, Sept. 12 at 6pm, we’ll meet in the worship center for some hymns and praise songs from past decades, we’ll hear from previous staff members such as Betty Smith, on behalf of Pastor Roland Smith, Pastor Dave Barrett and Christian Nuckels. We’ll hear some funny memories, learn some Weems Creek trivia, and a little about the history of the church. Then we will go to the multipurpose room for a time of fellowship and an opportunity to look at displays recounting mission trips, church events, building stages, previous staff members, and the history of the church.

On Sunday, Pastor David Orr will speak briefly before Pastor Bryan brings the message. The annual church picnic will be right after church around back. If you are planning to stay for the picnic, please sign up in the church app or at the Connect Center so we can plan accordingly. We are also asking everyone to bring a dish or two to share and chairs or a blanket to sit on.

If you know of someone who has previous attended, please invite them! We are asking visitors to RSVP by Sept. 1 for the Saturday evening (6-8pm) event and for the picnic. They can RSVP to office@weemscreek.com, call 410-266-5527, or text 410-562-4198. Regular Weems Creek folks do not need to RSVP for the Saturday evening program, just the picnic.

We are also looking for some people who would be willing to help clean and straighten up the building. We expect some people who are coming back to want to check out the building, and we would love for it to look its best! Volunteers could come during the week from 9am-1pm or Saturday, Sept. 5th from 9am – 12pm. Please contact Tracey Hawkins via text or email (office@weemscreek.com) if you are able to help.

Wellspring Walk & Run for Life

Time to be bold for life! Our church is participating again this year in the Wellspring Life Ministry’s annual Walk and 5k Run for Life on Saturday, September 19, at Mid-Atlantic Community Church in Gambrills. We invite you to join our team and help raise funds to support women and families in our community. Walkers who raise $150 and registered Runners who raise $100 by Sept 1 will receive a free commemorative shirt (after that, shirts will be available as supplies allow). Together, we are serving women, saving babies, and sharing Jesus! Learn more and sign up at www.walkandrun.org or by contacting Brian Selmer (briansel@gmail.com or 301-471-4141). Ready to support our team directly? New Sermon Series – Lord’s Supper

Jesus commanded the church to regularly remember the Lord’s Supper. It is very important. Join us for this two-part message as we explore the incredibly rich meaning of the Lord’s Supper and how we can better observe it for the glory of God. This series will begin next Sunday.

Serve Team Fair

God has made each one of us to be uniquely gifted and empowered in many different ways. Our church Serve Team Fair is the perfect place to see where your unique gifting may best fit in serving within the church. Whether you’re on a team or not, the Serve Team Fair is a great way to see all that the Lord is doing in and through Weems Creek Church – and perhaps, where God can use you as well! Join us Sunday, Aug. 30 directly following the service in the multipurpose room.

Wednesday Night Activities

All Wednesday evening activities will resume on Sept. 9

Student Ministry | 6-8pm – 6th-12th grade

Awana | 6:30-8pm – PreK3 – 6th grade

Mixed Adult Bible Study | 6:30-8pm – Join us for a 10-week study on how God desires to grows His kingdom. It starts with meeting God and learning about Him; then, we must learn to obey the Lord in light of His character. “It will change each of our lives, radically transform our families, and, by God’s grace, turn the world right side up.” Del Tackett

Men’s Bible Study | 6:30-8pm – The Men’s Bible study will be focused on the Prison Epistles of Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon.

Women’s Bible Study | 6:30-8pm – see information below

Women’s Bible Study

We are set to begin our midweek Bible studies the week of Sept. 6th. They will be studying the book of Genesis and using a Life-Guide study written by Charles and Anne Hummel. Genesis is a book of beginnings; the origin of the universe, the birth of humanity and founding of the Hebrew nation. Much of Genesis consists of stories; the history of individuals, families, tribes and nations. You will find that some of their experiences mirror your own, reflecting the way God wants to lead us into new ways of knowing and serving Him.

Three different times are available; Tuesday mornings from 10am-11:30am, Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm-8pm and Saturday mornings from 9:30am-11am. Sign up at the Connect Center, in the church app, or by using these links: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Saturdays.

SonShiners Trip to Sight & Sound Theatre

The SonShiners will be going to see the live production of Joshua on Oct. 15 at 11am.  Tickets are $88.35 and you must sign up and pay by Sept. 13. If you would like to ride the minibus, it will leave the church at 7:45am. After the show they will stop at Hershey Farms restaurant for lunch.
