Weekly Update, August 14th, 2026

Hi Church,

This Sunday, Pastor Dan Hyun will be bringing the message. He was the founding pastor of The Village Church in Baltimore where he gained firsthand experience of God’s heart for the ministry of reconciliation in a diverse, urban ministry context. He helped guide The Village through a successful leadership transition and is full of joy to be a member of the church as it continues to thrive.

He now serves as the Director of Formation and Health with the Baptist Convention of Maryland and Delaware, where he supports pastors and congregations across diverse ministry contexts. Dan’s passion is cultivating spaces to experience God’s presence through his work at www.danhyunformation.com. He is also the author of The Bible in 52 Weeks: A Yearlong Bible Study Companion.

His interests include sports, working out, good food, and pop culture. Dan loves journeying with his lovely wife, Judie, and two daughters.

This Sunday we will also hear testimonies from a couple people who went on the Germany mission trip.

75th Anniversary Celebration

We are excited about the church's upcoming 75th anniversary next month on September 12-13! We want to celebrate the goodness of God for these many years! As part of the celebration, we will have our annual picnic after the church service on September 13th. We expect a higher attendance this year because we are inviting previous members to join us so we are asking people to pre-register for the picnic so that we can plan accordingly. It would be greatly appreciated if you register now and not wait until the last minute. You can do that in the church app or at the Connect Center. Also, we are asking people to bring a dish or two to share for the picnic.

If you know of someone who has previous attended, please invite them! We are asking people to RSVP by Sept. 1 for the Saturday evening (6-8pm) event and for the picnic. They can RSVP to office@weemscreek.com, call 410-266-5527, or text 410-562-4198.

Meals for the Annapolis Light House - UPDATED

After a 6-year break, we will once again be preparing and serving meals for the Light House. Our first meal will be Aug. 31st. We learned this week that the meals must now be prepared at the Light House. We need people to prepare a main dish (must include a protein), a vegetable, and a starch dish. One person could do it or you could team up with some friends! The meal must feed 50 people and be served starting at 5pm. You will be reimbursed for the cost of the food (save your receipts!). We also need people to serve the meal and to sit and visit with residents while they eat. If you are interested, please sign up in the church app or at the Connect Center. If you have questions, please contact Katie Dimka at 904-377-8616.

Germantown Elementary

We have partnered with Germantown Elementary to support our local community. On Thursday, Aug. 20, they will have a Back to School event from 3-5pm. We are in need of 6-8 volunteers to pass out ice cream as the families leave. Please sign up in the church app or at the Connect Center to volunteer. The school address is 200 Windell Ave, Annapolis.

Serve Team Fair

God has made each one of us to be uniquely gifted and empowered in many different ways. Our church Serve Team Fair is the perfect place to see where your unique gifting may best fit in serving within the church. Whether you’re on a team or not, the Serve Team Fair is a great way to see all that the Lord is doing in and through Weems Creek Church – and perhaps, where God can use you as well! Join us Sunday, Aug. 30 directly following the service in the multipurpose room.

SonShiners Baysox Game

The SonShiners are headed to the Chesapeake Baysox game for an exciting evening of baseball, cheering and fun together! Tickets are $11 and you must sign up by this Sunday. The church minibus is available for those who would prefer not to drive. It will leave the church at 5:30pm. Sign up in the church app or at the Connect Center.

Student Ministry Mission Trip

The Student Ministry will be going on a mission trip to Guanyabo, Puerto Rico July 3-9, 2027. This area is still devastated from hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017. Participants will be doing light construction to help repair and rebuild homes and churches. In addition, members of the mission teams may participate in community outreach through prayer walking, meal distribution, etc. This trip is open to youth (12 yrs old) and their parents. There are limited spots available (7 male and 6 female) so if you are interested in going, please sign up in the church app.

Fuge 2027

Who’s already looking forward to Fuge 2027?! The students will be going to Ridgecrest Conference Center in Black Mountain, NC July 19-23. This is open to students who will have completed 6th – 12th grades. The cost of camp is $375 and a deposit of $125 is required to hold a spot. Sign up and pay the deposit in the church app.

Forgiven and Set Free Bible Study

If you're carrying the weight of a past abortion, you don't have to carry it alone. Later this month, Wellspring Life Ministry will begin Forgiven and Set Free, a compassionate and confidential Bible study for women seeking healing from the grief, guilt, and regret that can follow an abortion—even if it happened many years ago. A study for men with an abortion experience in their past is offered as well. Find God's healing and forgiveness through this compassionate, confidential Bible study. Learn more or register at wellspringlifeministry.org/PAS
