Weekly Update, May 1st, 2026

Hi Church,

Last Sunday we voted to make Elaine Bachhuber our Interim Children's Ministry Director. We are grateful for Elaine's willingness to serve! Please pray for Elaine as she prepares to begin on June 1st. In that light, VBS is getting closer! Parents, if you have not done so already, let me encourage you to sign up your kids so that we can plan accordingly. Also, tell friends and neighbors about VBS, and promote it through social media if possible. 

Greece Mission Trip

Our planned mission trip to Greece for September is fast approaching. We will hold a brief informational meeting for the Greece mission trip immediately following the worship service this Sunday in the multipurpose room. You can learn more about the trip's cost and the team's plans for the week in Greece.

Fellows Program – Caden Mewshaw

Caden Mewshaw is being put forth before the church by the Pastoral staff to participate in the church’s Fellows Program. Caden sensed the Lord calling him into ministry and has since begun school at Cedarville University with the goal of entering pastoral ministry. As a Fellow, Caden will serve primarily in the Student Ministry, assisting Pastor Alex, but will have several other pastoral responsibilities as well. We will vote on Caden serving in this roll at the May 13 business meeting.

Ladies Tea

The Ladies Tea is tomorrow from 3-5pm. It will be a great time!

One Body, Many Gifts: A Weems Creek Showcase

Join us on Saturday, May 16th from 2-4pm as we celebrate our church’s unique gifts and talents! We have some unique talents already lined up but we know there are more of you out there! Some of you are amazing bakers, cooks, crafters, singers, instrumentalists, photographers, writers, athletes, and more! You could cook/bake something, display your craft, art, or photograph, share a video, perform a dance or song, or show a video clip of your athletic prowess.

To participate, you must sign up by this Wednesday, May 6th in the church app or at the Connect Center.

National Day of Prayer

On May 7, join hundreds of area Christians for a time of prayer and worship in downtown Annapolis at Lawyers Mall, an open-air plaza directly in front of the Maryland State House, adjacent to State Circle and College Avenue. Free parking available two blocks away after 6 pm at the Calvert Street Garage, 19 St. Johns Street. You can drop off your party curbside at Lawyers Mall, park, and then make the short walk back. If you would like to carpool, please sign up at the Connect Center. Meeting is 6:30 - 8:00 PM.

Students – Terrapin Adventures

Join us for a fun afternoon of adventure on rope courses and obstacle challenges at Terrapin Adventures on May 9 from 11am-4pm. Cost is $40/person and you are to bring a sack lunch with you. Be sure to sign-up with Pastor Alex ASAP as spots must be reserved!

SonShiners Brunch

The SonShiners (55 ) will be meeting at Double T Diner in Annapolis on Friday, May 15th at 10:30am for brunch. This will be a great time of fellowship. Please sign up in the church app or at the Connect Center so we can give the restaurant a headcount.

SonShiners River Cruise

The SonShiners will also be cruising down the Choptank River and enjoying lunch aboard on Thursday, June 4th. Tickets are $59 per person which includes lunch. You must sign up and pay by Sunday, May 17th. The cruise is from 12-2pm and originates in Hurlock, MD. If you would like to ride the church minibus, please indicate that when you sign up/register and meet at church by 10am. Please sign up in the church app or at the Connect Center.

Thank you to our incredible Weems Creek volunteers for the time, energy, and care you gave last weekend at the Church Workday. From tackling tree and shrub removal, repairing mailboxes to reorganizing the shed, power washing, replacing light bulbs, installing door stoppers & a door closer, painting, disinfecting tables & chairs and completing a deep clean of the baptismal—your efforts made a visible and meaningful impact across the church grounds and facilities. Thank you for your hard work and serving heart for caring for this space. It is deeply appreciated.

Wellspring Life Ministry Forgiven and Set Free Retreat

Wellspring Life Ministry will be holding their first Forgiven and Set Free (FASF) Weekend Retreat on June 5-7 near Annapolis. There is limited availability. Registration ends Monday, May 4 for this retreat weekend, and is offered free of charge as part of Wellspring Life Ministry's commitment to see women and men reconciled to God after an abortion experience.

Vacation Bible School Registration

VBS 2026 Illumination Station will be Sunday June 28th through Thursday July 2nd from 6-8:30pm for children who have completed PreK 4 – 6th grade. Please register your children in the church app or at https://www.weemscreek.com/vbs2026
