Weekly Update, August 22nd, 2025
Hi Church,
I enjoyed a busy but refreshing vacation. It's good to be back and serving at WCC. I look forward to seeing you on Sunday as we continue our series on the book of Proverbs and apply God's wisdom to our lives. We have covered some very practical topics in Proverbs so far and this Sunday we will explore parenting. Whatever stage of life you are in, we should want to know these truths and point others to their life-changing power.
Car Wash Outreach
Tomorrow! The car wash outreach will take place from 10am-2pm. We would love some more volunteers to minister to our community. We'll be offering free car washes to neighbors and friends at the church. We’ll offer light refreshments and have conversations with those who attend, getting to know them while sharing what ministries our church has to offer. Please invite those in your community, particularly if you live relatively close to church.
If you are able to wash vehicles, direct traffic, and/or converse with those who attend, please join us. There will be two shifts of people, from 9:45am-12:15pm and 11:45am-2:15pm. We’d love for you to join us for anytime you able.
Business Meeting
The next business meeting will be on Aug. 27th at 6pm in the worship center. We will be voting to approve the Table of Contents, chapters 1, 2, 4, and 5 of the Personnel Manual. Last week, the Table of Contents and chapters 1 & 2 were available at the Connect Center. Chapters 4 & 5 will be available this Sunday. Please stop by the Connect Center to pick up those documents so they can be reviewed BEFORE the meeting. At the meeting we will answer any questions and vote on it. We will not be reviewing it section by section. We will also review the financial reports and vote in new members.
Women’s Bible Study
An unseen conflict is constantly happening around you. A cunning, devilish enemy seeks to wreak havoc on everything that matters to you. Ephesian 6:12 says, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” In Ephesians 6:10-19, the apostle Paul teaches us how to “put on the full armor of God.”
Come and join one of our three women’s Bible studies this fall: Tuesday mornings at 10:00am (begins 9/9), Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm (begins 9/10), and Saturday mornings at 9:30am (begins 9/13). This scripture will be examined using Priscilla Shirer’s study book, The Armor of God. This is more than just a description of a believer’s inventory. It is an action plan for putting on your armor and developing a personalized strategy to secure victory against the enemy. Sign up at the Connect Center or in the church app.
Wellspring Walk and 5K Run for Life
Our church is Running with Endurance this year as part of Wellspring Life Ministry’s Walk and 5K Run for Life on Saturday, Sept. 20, at Mid-Atlantic Community Church (MACC) in Gambrills. We invite you to join our team and help raise funds to support women, men, and their families in our community who are facing crisis pregnancies. Together, we are serving women, saving babies, and sharing the hope of Jesus! All funds go toward providing free ultrasounds and counseling. Sign up or donate at www.walkandrun.org or by contacting our team captain, Melissa Emert.
Caution
Another large branch has fallen from one of the oak trees on the hill behind the church. Parents, please do not allow children to play near or under the tree until the branch has been cleared and the tree has been pruned. If you are going to the playground, please approach it from the right side. The gaga pit is still accessible, but children should stay on the deck.
Widow’s Walk Gathering
The widow ladies of our church, and their friends who are widows, are invited to gather for food and fellowship. They’ll meet at BJ & Brenda Hallmark’s home on Saturday, Sept. 6th at 2pm. Please bring a snack or appetizer to share. Sign up using this link Widow's Walk Gathering, in the church app, or at the Connect Center.
Students Family Movie Night
Students and their families are invited to come together as we welcome in the new rising 6th grade students and their families! Join us to watch “Prince of Egypt” outside on the big screen with some freshly popped popcorn in your hand and your favorite candy by your side (snacks provided, but you are welcome to bring more). Join us on Friday, Sept. 5th from 7:30-10pm. Please sign up using this link Students Family Movie Night, in the church app or at the Connect Center. Let Pastor Alex know if you have any questions!
Sunday School Promotion
Children and youth who are beginning 1st, 3rd, 6th, and 9th grades will move up to their next class on Sept. 7th. Their teachers are excited to meet them!
Blessings!
Pastor Bryan
