Weekly Update, October 24th, 2025

Hi Church,

This Sunday we will explore an incredibly important passage in James that discusses trials. Everyone experiences hardships in life and we can wonder where God is in the midst of them. Because God loves us, he has much to say about this topic and our text in James is very valuable to help us see God’s purpose in allowing trials.

Men’s Ministry Kick-off Campfire

Join us at 5:30pm tonight behind the church as we kick off a new series of events in Men’s Ministry. We will grill out, play games, and worship together around the firepit. We’ll also be discussing upcoming activities for our Men’s Ministry related to fellowship, service and outreach. The event is for men ages 18 and older. Please sign up using this link: Campfire or in the church app.

Ladies Friendsgiving

We’re so thankful for friends who feel like family! Invite a friend and join us on Nov. 1 at 12pm for a Ladies Friendsgiving! We’ll have soups, chilis, and dessert all while fellowshipping with friends. We are asking everyone to help by bringing a soup, chili, a topping, or dessert. Please sign up using this link: Ladies Friendsgiving, in the church app, or at the Connect Center.

Parents Night Out – Volunteers Needed!

We are excited to provide this opportunity for the parents of our church and our community! We have more than 40 children registered and need help with childcare for those 5 and under, supervision for 6-13 year olds, and kitchen help (help serve pizza and drinks, clean up after they eat). If you are able to help, please sign up using this link: Parents Night Out Volunteers, in the church app or at the Connect Center.

Parents, before the hustle & bustle of the holiday season, we would love to bless you with an evening of free childcare so you can enjoy quality time with your spouse! Check-in will begin at 5:30pm. Kids that are newborn through 13 years old are welcome to attend. Pizza and drinks will be provided for dinner, and kids will have time for games, crafts, and a movie! We will be showing the movies The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (6 yrs and older) and The Star (5 years and younger). Pick up time is by 8pm. Registration for this event is required as there is limited space. Register using this link Parents Night Out Participants, in the church app, or at the Connect Center.

New Women’s Bible Study

The next women’s Bible study begins this week! They will be using a study from RightNow Media titled Essentials of the Faith: What Does the Bible Say? The Bible has a lot to say about life, relationships, and how to commune with God. But it’s also an epic story of how God, in His love, created the world, sustained it through the evil of sin, and sent His son to save it. Come join us on Tuesdays at 10am, Wednesdays at 6:30pm, or Saturdays at 9:30am. This is a 4-week study and there is no book fee.

New LIFE Groups

The next set of LIFE Groups will begin Nov. 10. Both classes will meet for 6 weeks on Monday evenings at 7pm. Both classes are also very close to the church. Be sure to sign up as space is limited.

Weird Stuff: Old Testament – Giants. Talking snakes. Nephilim. Lake of Fire. Plagues. On the surface, it appears that the Old Testament is filled with some weird stuff. Dr. Jeff Voth and Hebrew scholar, Dr. Nathan French, discuss and make sense of some of the weird stuff in the Bible to ultimately point us back to the needed redemption of Jesus Christ. This class will be hosted and led by Jody & Courtney Smotherman.

The Cost of Control – We often claim to have everything under control – whether it’s our hectic family schedules, deadlines at work, or unexpected problems that throw us off track – but are we, really? Control can trick us into thinking we can gain comfort, security, and peace through our own efforts. But even though we might think we have a handle on our lives, God is the only one fully in control. In this study, Bible teacher and author Sharon Hodde Miller discusses the way control can cost us a lot more than we could ever imagine – and how we can walk in faith knowing God is in complete control. Pastor Alex will be leading this class at the home of Nick & Chloe Spurgeon.

Surviving the Holidays

B.J. and Brenda Hallmark will be leading this stand-alone GriefShare session, Surviving the Holidays. This session offers support and practical tips for facing the holiday challenges after loss. Please register online at www.griefshare.org/holidays. The cost is $5.
