Weekly Update, October 31st, 2025

Hi Church,

Remember this weekend the time changes so be sure to turn your clocks back an hour before going to bed on Saturday!

New LIFE Groups

The next set of LIFE Groups will begin Nov. 10. Both classes will meet for 6 weeks on Monday evenings at 7pm. Both classes are also very close to the church. Be sure to sign up as space is limited.

Weird Stuff: Old Testament – Giants. Talking snakes. Nephilim. Lake of Fire. Plagues. On the surface, it appears that the Old Testament is filled with some weird stuff. Dr. Jeff Voth and Hebrew scholar, Dr. Nathan French, discuss and make sense of some of the weird stuff in the Bible to ultimately point us back to the needed redemption of Jesus Christ. This class will be hosted and led by Jody & Courtney Smotherman. Register here: Weird Stuff

The Cost of Control – We often claim to have everything under control – whether it’s our hectic family schedules, deadlines at work, or unexpected problems that throw us off track – but are we, really? Control can trick us into thinking we can gain comfort, security, and peace through our own efforts. But even though we might think we have a handle on our lives, God is the only one fully in control. In this study, Bible teacher and author Sharon Hodde Miller discusses the way control can cost us a lot more than we could ever imagine – and how we can walk in faith knowing God is in complete control. Pastor Alex will be leading this class at the home of Nick & Chloe Spurgeon. Register here: The Cost of Control

Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes

Shoeboxes filled by Weems Creek folks are due back to the church by Nov. 9th.  This is a week before the National Collection Week. There is a cart in the atrium for filled shoeboxes.

Operation Christmas Child National Collection Week

Weems Creek Church is a national drop-off site for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. We will be collecting from Nov. 17-24. There are several volunteer positions available for each time slot:

  • Greeters (cheerful greeting, invite donor to learn more, offer to pray with them for the child that will receive the shoebox, sincere “Thank you”)

  • Unloaders/Documenters (unload shoeboxes, count and document boxes received)

  • Cartonizers (load shoeboxes into cartons and seal)

  • Hospitality (bring snacks, drinks, crafts, simple games to offer donors that come inside).

There are morning and evening time slots available. How can you help? Please sign up at the Connect Center.

Parents Night Out – Next Friday!

We would love to have a few more volunteers as we provide parents with a night out, especially in the infants, toddlers, and Pre-K classes. If you are able to help, please sign up using this link: Parents Night Out Volunteers, in the church app or at the Connect Center.

Parents, there are still spaces available if you would like to register your children. Register using this link Parents

The event is Friday, Nov. 7th with check-in beginning at 5:30pm. Newborns through 13 years old are welcome to attend. Pizza and drinks will be provided for dinner, and kids will have time for games, crafts, and a movie! We will be showing the movies The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (6 yrs and older) and The Star (5 years and younger). Pick up time is by 8pm. Registration for this event is required.

Surviving the Holidays

B.J. and Brenda Hallmark will be leading this stand-alone GriefShare session, Surviving the Holidays. This session offers support and practical tips for facing the holiday challenges after loss. Please register online at www.griefshare.org/holidays. The cost is $5.

New Women’s Bible Study

The new women’s Bible study started this week but it’s not too late to join! They will be using a study from RightNow Media titled What Does the Bible Say? The Bible has a lot to say about life, relationships, and how to commune with God. But it’s also an epic story of how God, in His love, created the world, sustained it through the evil of sin, and sent His son to save it. Come join us on Tuesdays at 10am, Wednesdays at 6:30pm, or Saturdays at 9:30am. This is a 4-week study and there is no book fee.

Prayer for Revival

The Lord is doing a great work of revival in our nation. Join us as we continue to pray for that. We will meet on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 11am in the Student Room and pray for one hour.

Veterans Day Video Tribute

Sandy McCarthy is updating our video tribute to the service men and women of our church. If you are serving or have served in the military, please email a photo (in uniform, if possible) to Sandy McCarthy or the church office (office@weemscreek.com) by this coming Monday, Nov. 3rd. Please reach out to her if you need to update a previous submission.

Blessings!
