Weekly Update, September 18th, 2026

Hi Church, 

We enjoyed such a great 75th anniversary last weekend with many former members and staff joining us. Thank you so much to the planning team and the Fellowship team for organizing everything. Make sure to pick up a copy of the church history at the Connect Center--it is well done and a keepsake.  

On another note, our Awana program started 2 weeks ago and we have another large enrollment of children. Currently, we need more full-time volunteers and substitutes. Please consider serving in this important role to help kids memorize Scripture and have fun.  

New Sermon Series – The Parables of Jesus: Stories about the Kingdom of God

Please join us for the new series on The Parables of Jesus – the greatest stories by the greatest storyteller! The series will last several months. To make the most out of the series, try to read all the parables, especially the particular parable covered in the sermon schedule.

Parables Devotion Book

Parents, we have a solid resource for you to incorporate into your family devotions during the sermon series on the parables of Jesus. This book, Listen Up, provides a unique opportunity for children to listen up and hear the Gospel as Jesus himself shared it. The book is geared toward 5-11 year-olds and cost $15. Please sign up for the book at the Connect Center or in the church app and we will place the order on Sept. 28. There is a copy of the book at the Connect Center if you would like to take a look.

Sunday Evening Class

Join us as I lead a fascinating 6-week video study, Person of Interest by J. Warner Wallace, a famous cold-case detective. Wallace makes the compelling case that powerful evidence exists, even apart from the Bible itself, that Jesus (God incarnate) ministered among us. The class meets at 6pm on Sundays beginning October 4th. There is an optional book for $10. Sign up in the church app or at the Connect Center.

New Members Class: Discovering Weems Creek

You are invited to join us for the New Members Class: Discovering Weems Creek on Sunday, September 27 at 12:15pm in room 111 (downstairs). This class is an excellent way to gain a closer look at the church's beliefs, mission, and opportunities of service and help you decide whether to pursue membership. This in an informational meeting; there is no commitment to membership. A light lunch will be provided and childcare (if needed). Please sign up in the church app or at the Connect Center.

Cooking with Jenny

The women’s ministry will be doing an always popular Cooking with Jenny on Oct. 3 from 3-5pm. Jenny will teach the ladies how to make a couple easy dishes. Class size is limited to 40 people so don’t delay in registering. You can sign up in the church app or at the Connect Center.

Harvest Fest

Harvest Fest is Saturday, Oct. 17 from 11am-1pm and is free for everyone! We will have a petting zoo, games, and food. We will also be collecting canned items for a local food pantry.

To make this a success we need lots of volunteers!

Pre-event volunteers: hay bale maze creator, Chili Cook-off organizer(s), Chili Cook-off judges (3), Chili Cook-off participants, donate baked good for the “Cake Walk,” prepare welcome bags for guests

Set-up crew: 9am-11am

Event volunteers: Welcome/registration table, facepainting (2-6 volunteers), food volunteers (hand out popcorn, hot dogs and drinks), game booth volunteers, hot dog griller (start at 10:30am)

Tear down/clean up (1pm-3pm)

Church Plant Partnership

Our church planting partner in Baltimore, Southside Community Church (834 S. Charles St), has asked Weems Creek Church to come alongside them to provide some help. We are asking for a group of volunteers to help clean and freshen up the campus. It will include pressure washing the entrance, washing windows, cleaning a rooftop gathering area, and removing some debris and other unwanted items. The work would be considered “light” labor, and we anticipate it taking less than 2 hours. If you have a pressure washer that you can bring to Baltimore, please let Pastor Scott know via email (scott@weemscreek.com) or text. We will be doing this on Oct. 3rd from 9am-12pm.

After the cleaning is complete, we plan on taking some time to pray for the neighborhood, the church, and the Sams family as they launch in Baltimore. Please sign up in the church app or at the Connect Center to help.

LIFE Groups Begin This Week!

We have 3 new LIFE Groups beginning the week of Sept. 20th. LIFE Groups are small group settings where you can grow deeper in your faith and also in your friendships with others. They are casual discussion groups relating to a given topic of study. The goal is the development of healthy relationships where you can be loved, encouraged, challenged, and motivated for life in Christ. All classes are within 3 miles of the church. Please sign up in the church app, at the Connect Center, or by clicking on the name of the group.

Group 1: The Parables of Jesus

Begins Sept. 22 and meets on Tuesdays at 6:30pm at the home of Shawn & Jenn Wilson. Class size is limited to 20 people.

Description: The group will discuss the recent sermons from Pastor Bryan. The parables are so incredibly rich and meaningful so it will be enjoyable to understand and apply them further in our lives.

Group 2: Weird Stuff: New Testament

Begins Sept. 22 and meets on Tuesdays at 7:30pm at the home of Jody & Courtney Smotherman. Class size is limited to 12 people.

Description: Genealogy. Demons. Miracles. Rapture. Lake of Fire. On the surface, the New Testament contains some seemingly weird things. But what if we told you the point isn't the “weird”? In this six-part series, Dr. Jeff Voth and Hebrew scholar, Dr. Nathan French, discuss and make sense of some of the weird stuff in the Bible to ultimately point us back to the needed redemption of Jesus Christ.

Group 3: The Book of Revelation

Begins Sept. 21 and meets on Monday nights at 6:30pm at the home of Nick & Chloe Spurgeon. Class size is limited to 15 people.

Description: Revelation is the last book of the Bible and remains one of the most fascinating and challenging books. The group will study Revelation for twelve sessions.  

Business Meeting

Our next business meeting will be Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 6pm in room 102 (next to the church office). We will hear ministry updates, review financial reports, and hear a recommendation from the finance committee.

Mixed Adult Bible Study | 6:30-8pm – Join us for a 10-week study on how God desires to grows His kingdom. It starts with meeting God and learning about Him; then, we must learn to obey the Lord in light of His character. “It will change each of our lives, radically transform our families, and, by God’s grace, turn the world right side up.” Del Tackett

Men’s Bible Study | 6:30-8pm – The Men’s Bible study will be focused on the Prison Epistles of Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon.
