Weekly Update, September 11th, 2026
Hi Church,
We are very excited about the 75th anniversary this weekend! I hope you will join us for our Saturday and Sunday events. It will be wonderful to celebrate what God has done over the last 75 years and look forward to the future. Many former members are joining us so it should be a great spiritual family reunion. Please read below for more information about the weekend, particularly about parking on Sunday morning.
75th Anniversary Celebration
The 75th Anniversary Celebration is here! We are expecting a much larger crowd on Sunday. If you are able, we are asking families to carpool. We will have some spots blocked off for the picnic and we have many who are coming for the special event so parking will be somewhat limited. We are unable to park in any of the neighboring parking lots but will have parking attendants to help. We are also asking everyone to move to the center of the seat rows so that everyone can find a seat.
Tomorrow evening, we will start at 6pm. On Sunday, we will have normal Sunday school classes and the worship service at 11am. The picnic will follow on the hill behind the church. Please bring a side dish or two to share and a chair or blanket to sit on. We will have tables and chairs set up on the black top for those who aren’t comfortable walking in the grass. If you are able to walk up to the hill, please be respectful and leave those seats for others. There will be a few picnic tables available on the hill as well.
If you are interested in participating in the cornhole tournament during the picnic, please sign up in the church app, or at the Connect Center. If you have a cornhole set that we can borrow for the day, please sign up for that as well or contact the church office to let us know.
New Sermon Series – The Parables of Jesus: Stories about the Kingdom of God
Please join us for the new series on The Parables of Jesus – the greatest stories by the greatest storyteller! The series will last several months. To make the most out of the series, try to read all the parables, especially the particular parable covered in the sermon schedule.
Parables Devotion Book
Listen Up by Marty Machowski – This family devotional provides a unique opportunity for Christian parents to help their children listen up and hear the gospel as Jesus himself shared it. This will be a great resource to incorporate into your family devotions during the sermon series on the parables of Jesus. There is a copy of the book at the Connect Center. If interested, sign-up and we will place the order for you to pick up in a week or so. The book is geared for ages 5-11 and is $15.
New Members Class: Discovering Weems Creek
You are invited to join us for the New Members Class: Discovering Weems Creek on Sunday, September 27 at 12:15pm in room 111 (downstairs). This class is an excellent way to gain a closer look at the church's beliefs, mission, and opportunities of service and help you decide whether to pursue membership. This in an informational meeting; there is no commitment to membership. A light lunch will be provided and childcare (if needed). Please sign up in the church app or at the Connect Center.
Church Planting Partner: Southside Community Church
Our church planting partner in Baltimore, Southside Community Church, launches this Sunday, September 13. Please pray for Pastor Brandon Sams and the core group of members as they follow God's plan to reach their neighbors in Baltimore's Federal Hill neighborhood.
Brandon has asked us to organize a group to clean part of the campus to make it more inviting for guests. We need at least a couple of people with pressure washers to clean some sidewalks and concrete. If you can bring a pressure washer, please email Pastor Scott at scott@weemscreek.com. Additionally, we will remove some debris, clean a roof top patio area, and perform general cleanup on the campus. After cleaning, we will spend time praying over the campus and prayerwalk in the neighborhood. Please sign up in the church app if you are able to help.
LIFE Groups
We have 3 new LIFE Groups beginning the week of Sept. 20th. LIFE Groups are small group settings where you can grow deeper in your faith and also in your friendships with others. They are casual discussion groups relating to a given topic of study. The goal is the development of healthy relationships where you can be loved, encouraged, challenged, and motivated for life in Christ. All classes are within 3 miles of the church. Group 1: The Parables of Jesus
Begins Sept. 22 and meets on Tuesdays at 6:30pm at the home of Shawn & Jenn Wilson. Class size is limited to 20 people.
Description: The group will discuss the recent sermons from Pastor Bryan. The parables are so incredibly rich and meaningful so it will be enjoyable to understand and apply them further in our lives.
Group 2: Weird Stuff: New Testament
Begins Sept. 22 and meets on Tuesdays at 7:30pm at the home of Jody & Courtney Smotherman. Class size is limited to 12 people.
Description: Genealogy. Demons. Miracles. Rapture. Lake of Fire. On the surface, the New Testament contains some seemingly weird things. But what if we told you the point isn't the “weird”? In this six-part series, Dr. Jeff Voth and Hebrew scholar, Dr. Nathan French, discuss and make sense of some of the weird stuff in the Bible to ultimately point us back to the needed redemption of Jesus Christ.
Group 3: The Book of Revelation
Begins Sept. 21 and meets on Monday nights at 6:30pm at the home of Nick & Chloe Spurgeon. Class size is limited to 15 people.
Description: Revelation is the last book of the Bible and remains one of the most fascinating and challenging books. The group will study Revelation for twelve sessions.
Business Meeting
Our next business meeting will be Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 6pm in room 102 (next to the church office). We will hear ministry updates, review financial reports, and hear a recommendation from the finance committee.
Student Ministry Scavenger Hunt
Parents and Students grades 6-12, join us for a fun night of competition against one another taking photos across Annapolis next Friday, 9/18 at 7pm. Students, even if your parents cannot attend you are still welcome. Winning family will win a prize to enjoy together! We will have an ice cream sundae party at the church following the scavenger hunt. Sign up in the church app.
Light House Meal
Our next time to cook for the Light House Homeless Prevention Center is Tuesday, Sept. 29. We will cook a meal for 50 people and need 4 people to prepare the food. You can choose to cook a main dish (must include a protein), a vegetable side dish, a starch side dish, and/or dessert. We also need 3 people to serve the meal. Sign up in the church app or at the Connect Center.
Cooking with Jenny
The women’s ministry will be doing an always popular Cooking with Jenny on Oct. 3 from 3-5pm. Jenny will teach the ladies how to make a couple easy dishes. Class size is limited to 40 people so don’t delay in registering. You can sign up in the church app or at the Connect Center.
Wellspring Walk & Run for Life
Time to be bold for life! Our church is participating again this year in the Wellspring Life Ministry’s annual Walk and 5k Run for Life on Saturday, September 19, at Mid-Atlantic Community Church in Gambrills. We invite you to join our team and help raise funds to support women and families in our community. Walkers who raise $150 and registered Runners who raise $100 by Sept 1 will receive a free commemorative shirt (after that, shirts will be available as supplies allow). Mixed Adult Bible Study | 6:30-8pm – Join us for a 10-week study on how God desires to grows His kingdom. It starts with meeting God and learning about Him; then, we must learn to obey the Lord in light of His character. “It will change each of our lives, radically transform our families, and, by God’s grace, turn the world right side up.” Del Tackett
Men’s Bible Study | 6:30-8pm – The Men’s Bible study will be focused on the Prison Epistles of Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon.

Women’s Bible Study
We are set to begin our midweek Bible studies the week of Sept. 6th. They will be studying the book of Genesis and using a Life-Guide study written by Charles and Anne Hummel. Genesis is a book of beginnings; the origin of the universe, the birth of humanity and founding of the Hebrew nation. Much of Genesis consists of stories; the history of individuals, families, tribes and nations. You will find that some of their experiences mirror your own, reflecting the way God wants to lead us into new ways of knowing and serving Him.
Three different times are available; Tuesday mornings from 10am-11:30am, Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm-8pm and Saturday mornings from 9:30am-11am. Sign up at the Connect Center, in the church app, or by using these links: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Saturdays.
SonShiners Activities
The SonShiners will have a fellowship lunch on Friday, Sept. 18 at 12pm in the multipurpose room. The church will provide sandwiches and drinks. Please bring a side dish to share. Liz Lewnes will also be passing out Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes and giving updates on the program. Sign up in the church app or at the Connect Center.
Sight & Sound trip to see Joshua on Oct. 15 at 11am. Tickets are $88.35 and you must sign up and pay by this Sunday. If you would like to ride the minibus, it will leave the church at 7:45am. After the show they will stop at Hershey Farms restaurant for lunch. You can register and pay for your ticket in the church app or sign up at the Connect Center.
Operation Christmas Child Seasonal Positions
