Weekly Update, February 27th, 2026

Hi Church,

This Sunday evening, I will begin a three-week class on the similarities and differences between Protestantism and Catholicism. People often wonder about the differences between them and does it matter. Yes, it does matter and as part of discipleship, Christians should want to understand. In week 1, we will briefly explore the history that led to the Protestant Reformation as well as the areas of agreement. In weeks 2 and 3, we will cover the areas of disagreement, focusing first on the essential doctrines, like the Bible and salvation and then moving to secondary doctrines like the Pope, purgatory, Mary, and so on. We will meet at 6pm in the multipurpose room. The meeting dates will be March 1, 8, and 15. Please sign up in the church app or at the Connect Center. There is a book that is an excellent resource, but it is optional. The book is available at the Connect Center for $10

Vacation Bible School

Do YOU want to be part of the most impactful week of Kids Ministry of the entire year??? Culture claims to know about Jesus, but many people are in the dark about who He really is. Some might see Jesus as just a person from history or a good man or a good teacher – but Jesus is more than that! This summer, VBS will shine a light on the truth of who Jesus really is. Meet us at Illumination Station for the brightest week of the year. Kids will explore all the ways light brightens, illuminates, reflects, and reveals while discovering that Jesus is the light who brings hope to a dark world! Like the disciples, kids will discover Jesus is who Scripture says He is – the perfect, proven, and powerful Son of God.

VBS 2026 Illumination Station will be Sunday June 28th through Thursday July 2nd from 6-8:30pm! There are many ways for you to serve, from helping with snacks, to leading a Bible study group, or even to “light the way” as this year’s Director! Please sign up to volunteer at the VBS registration table in the atrium this Sunday or reach out to Melissa Gardner at melissa@weemscreek.com.

Jesus spoke to them again: “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.” John 8:2.

Easter Egg Hunt Volunteers

Our annual community Easter Egg Hunt will be March 28th from 2-3:30pm. We need volunteers to help with set-up, registration, games & activities, face painting, food distribution, and clean-up. Join us in providing a fun Easter event for children and reaching our neighbors to share the true meaning of Easter. Please sign up in the church app or at the Connect Center.

Stand for Life

Believing that God calls His church to be salt and light in the community and defenders of the defenseless, we will be participating in the 40 Days for Life prayer campaign. Our church will pray together on Wednesday, March 4 from 10 am - 11 am. You can choose to pray on-site, or you could sign up for a different hour.

40 Days for Life is a coordinated 40-day campaign holding peaceful vigils near the Annapolis Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in order to offer hope and alternatives to women considering abortion. The goal is to provide a peaceful, prayerful presence for those who are facing the uncertainty of an unplanned pregnancy. During the campaign, individuals, churches, families, and groups join together to stand vigil and pray sending a powerful message to the community about the tragic reality of abortion and the hope of the Gospel.

In order to participate in the prayer vigil, you MUST sign up and complete the Statement of Peace on the 40 Days website. To learn more about the prayer vigil and register, go to https://www.40daysforlife.com/en/annapolis.

We will also be participating in the March for Life on March 16th. It begins at St. Mary’s Church at 6:30pm and ends with a rally at Lawyer’s Mall at 7:00pm. If you have questions about either event, please reach out to Pastor Scott at scott@weemscreek.com or call the church office.

Prayer for Revival

Join us on Thursday, March 12th at 11am in the Student Room as we pray for God to bring true revival to our church, community, and nation.

Sunday Worship Reminder

As a reminder, when we gather for worship on Sunday morning, we ask that you refrain from distracting conversations as well as leaving your seat unless necessary. We want to foster a setting where everyone can focus on worshipping God and hearing his word. By doing so, we truly love our neighbor as ourselves and welcome new people.

Lost & Found

Please stop by the Connect Center to check out the Lost & Found. There are several children’s jackets/coats/sweaters and a lot of water bottles/coffee mugs, as well as some jewelry. Item will be donated soon.

Teaching Positions

Calvary Baptist Church Academy needs a K3 (preschool) teacher and potentially an early education teacher (1st-3rd grade). Calvary Baptist Church Academy is a Christian school in Glen Burnie, MD that focuses on excellence in education. We have about 375 students with classes from K3 through the 12th grade. Our students test higher than the national average. We have a good balance between teaching Christian principles and having a strong educational base. If you are interested in either of these positions, please contact Joanne Stratton (stratton.cbcaknights@gmail.com). You can view a virtual tour which tells more about the school: https://www.cbcaknights.org/admissions/virtual-tour. There is also a link for an application: https://www.cbcaknights.org/employment/professional-application
