Weekly Update, January 30th, 2026
Hi Church,
Hopefully you are staying warm in the frigid temperatures! Let us know if you need any assistance. We plan to have regular Sunday activities, and we return to the book of James for the message. It will be great to fellowship again. If you have not done so already, please register for the Missions Trips meeting and luncheon after church this Sunday.
Mission Trips Meeting – This Sunday
Weems Creek has three international mission trips planned for 2026. We are hosting an information meeting this Sunday after the worship service in the multipurpose room. Come hear about the work we will be doing, costs for the trips, and how you can participate in one of these trips: São Paulo, Brazil (May); English camp in Wölmersen, Germany; Palmas, Greece (in the Fall). A light lunch will be served so please sign up today in the Church app or by emailing the office (office@weemscreek.com).
Game On!
Tomorrow is our churchwide fellowship, Game On! If you would still like to attend, please sign up today in the Church app or by emailing the office (office@weemscreek.com). If you will be attending, please arrive before 2pm tomorrow so we can get the fun started as soon as possible!
Special Service
Baptism is a tremendous occasion as a person publicly declares their faith in Christ. Baptism is an encouragement for the individual as they walk in obedience to Christ's command and it encourages the church to hear about God's work in our midst. Typically, our baptisms are held during a Sunday morning worship service, but we also want to give opportunities for people to be baptized in another setting - on a Sunday night with a smaller crowd. If you are interested in a Sunday evening baptism, we plan to have a service on February 15th at 6pm. All candidates must correspond with me (bryan@weemscreek.com) and finish their baptism testimony by February 8th. We are excited to hear more stories of God's work!
Business Meeting
Our business meeting was pushed back to this Wednesday at 6pm in room 102. We will be voting on the Nominating Committee report and the final chapters of the Personnel Manual. Copies of those chapters are available at the Connect Center. Please review them before the meeting and submit your suggestions, questions, or concerns to a committee member before the meeting. This allows the team to make changes before the meeting if necessary and they can address any concerns at the start of the discussion.
New LIFE Groups
LIFE Group 1: How Do We Live as Christians?
Begins: Feb. 17
Time: Tuesdays, 6:30pm
Duration: 6 weeks
Leaders: Shawn & Jenn Wilson
Description: Life as a Christian seems simple enough. After all, “Follow me” (Matt 4:19) is one of the foundational commands we’ve been given. But follow who? And follow where? Surely there’s more to it than that, right? In this six-session series, pastor and bestselling author Kyle Idleman will help us answer the question, “How do we live as Christians?” While following Jesus is our first and most important marching order, Kyle will help us answer some of the other questions that follow and that are essential to living faithfully as Christians. Regardless of where we’re at on our faith journey, Kyle will teach us what it looks like to live a Christian life. Register here.
LIFE Group 2: Weird Stuff: Old Testament – Part 2
Begins: Feb. 9
Time: Mondays, 7pm
Duration: 6 weeks
Leaders: Jody & Courtney Smotherman
Description: A whale swallowing a man? A city destroyed by fire? A father sacrificing his son? In this six-part series, Dr. Jeff Voth and Hebrew scholar, Dr. Nathan French, are back to discuss and make sense of some of the weird stuff in the Bible. Although these stories appear strange, they all can ultimately point us back to the needed redemption of Jesus Christ. Register here.
LIFE Group 3: Experiencing God: Knowing & Doing the Will of God
Begins: Feb. 23
Time: Mondays, 7pm
Duration: 13 weeks, plus breaks
Leaders: Andy & Micelle Hallmark
Description: This is a transformative study that helps believers deepen their relationship with God, learn to recognize His voice, see where He is working, and respond in faith. Experiencing God is a longer study (13 Weeks) than the average life group you may attend. We will take breaks during this time frame. This means the group will run into the summer.
We want to be clear that to get the most out of this study, participants will need to take some daily time with the Lord. This is not for the faint of heart, but at the same time, we believe you will find yourself more aligned with the Lord’s purposes than ever.
There is a workbook for the group that costs $10. Register here.
Protestants and Catholics Class
People often wonder about the differences between Protestants and Catholics and does it matter. As part of discipleship, Christians should want to understand. Join us for a 3-week class that will answer these questions. In week 1, we will briefly explore the history that led to the Protestant Reformation and the areas of agreement which are many. In weeks 2 and 3, we will cover the areas of disagreement on essential matters and then the same with secondary matters. Class starts February 22 and meets at 6pm in the multipurpose room. Please sign up in the church app or at the Connect Center. There is a $10 optional book for this class. Register in the church app or at the Connect Center.
Women’s Ministry – Cooking with Jenny
Ladies, join us for another fun evening of Cooking with Jenny! They will be making Chicken Enchiladas, a Super Bowl dip, and a Valentines dessert. The multipurpose room will become a prep kitchen on Feb. 7th from 3-5pm! Sign up in the Church app or at the Connect Center.
Widows Walk Gathering
The Widows Walk will be meeting at B.J. & Brenda Hallmark’s home on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 1pm for food, fun, and a trip down memory lane. Please bring several wedding photos and a side dish to accompany chicken and steak or a dessert. Sign up in the church app or at the Connect Center.
Women’s Retreat/Conference
Our Women’s Ministry is so excited about this year’s retreat! We will be joining other churches from across the state for a conference at Riva Trace Baptist Church. This conference, Can’t Stay Quiet, is based on Acts 4:20 – “for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard.” It’s designed to encourage and equip you to live boldly for Jesus. There will be keynote speakers, breakout sessions, worship, fellowship, and giveaways. There is something truly moving when a large group of women with the same focus come together in worship.
Join us Friday evening, March 6th and Saturday, March 7 (9am-3pm). Tickets are $45, which includes lunch. As a group, we must register by Feb. 15. Please sign up in the church app where you will be able to register, pay, and choose your lunch option. There will also be a signup sheet at the Connect Center.
