Weekly Update, January 24th, 2026
Hi Church,
Hopefully, you received the previous email about tomorrow. In case you didn't see it, we decided to cancel all Sunday activities due to the inclement weather. We take very seriously the immense value of meeting together for Bible studies and corporate worship but in this instance, we feel that it is best to cancel. We plan to post a YouTube video tomorrow at 11am that will include a devotional from myself and a few worship songs from Andy. You can watch the video on our church YouTube or Facebook pages. If you are in need of assistance during or after the storm, please do not hesitate to contact the church office.
Special Service
Baptism is a tremendous occasion as a person publicly declares their faith in Christ. Baptism is an encouragement for the individual as they walk in obedience to Christ's command and it encourages the church to hear about God's work in our midst. Typically, our baptisms are held during a Sunday morning worship service, but we also want to give opportunities for people to be baptized in another setting - on a Sunday night with a smaller crowd. If you are interested in a Sunday evening baptism, we plan to have a service on February 15th at 6pm. All candidates must correspond with me and finish their baptism testimony by February 8th. We are excited to hear more stories of God's work!
Mission Trips Meeting
Weems Creek has three international mission trips planned for 2026. We are hosting an information meeting February 1 at 12:15pm in the multipurpose room. Come hear about the work we will be doing, costs for the trips, and how you can participate in one of these trips: São Paulo, Brazil (May); English camp in Wölmersen, Germany; Palmas, Greece (in the Fall). A light lunch will be served so please sign up in the Church app or at the Connect Center.
Business Meeting
Our next business meeting will be January 28th at 6pm in room 102. We will be voting on the Nominating Committee report and the final chapters of the Personnel Manual. Copies of those chapters are available at the Connect Center. Please review them before the meeting and submit your suggestions, questions, or concerns to a committee member before the meeting. This allows the team to make changes before the meeting if necessary and they can address any concerns at the start of the discussion.
Game On!
Please join us for a fun-filled afternoon of laughter, connection, and friendly competition on Saturday, January 31 from 2–4pm! We’ll enjoy team-building games, Minute-to-Win-It challenges, and plenty of fun for the whole family. Bring a friend, bring your game face, and come ready to laugh! Childcare for infants and toddlers (0-3 years) will be available if requested by this Wednesday, so parents can relax and fully enjoy the fun. Sign up in the church app or at the Connect Center.
Women’s Ministry – Cooking with Jenny
Ladies, join us for another fun evening of Cooking with Jenny! They will be making Chicken Enchiladas, a Super Bowl dip, and a Valentines dessert. The multipurpose room will become a prep kitchen on Feb. 7th from 3-5pm! Sign up in the Church app or at the Connect Center.
New Deacons
We plan to add five new deacons in 2026: Fred Bedell, Andy Hallmark, B.J. Hallmark, James Robins, and Carl Schinner. If you have any concerns about these nominations, please speak with one of the staff pastors before our January business meeting (Jan. 28).
Women’s Retreat/Conference
Our Women’s Ministry is so excited about this year’s retreat! We will be joining other churches from across the state for a conference at Riva Trace Baptist Church. This conference, Can’t Stay Quiet, is based on Acts 4:20 – “for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard.” It’s designed to encourage and equip you to live boldly for Jesus. There will be keynote speakers, breakout sessions, worship, fellowship, and giveaways. There is something truly moving when a large group of women with the same focus come together in worship.
Join us Friday evening, March 6th and Saturday, March 7 (9am-3pm). Tickets are $45, which includes lunch. As a group, we must register by Feb. 15. Please sign up in the church app where you will be able to register, pay, and choose your lunch option. There will also be a signup sheet at the Connect Center.
Night to Shine
First Baptist Church of Waldorf is looking for volunteers to assist with Tim Tebow’s Night to Shine event. The Night to Shine is an unforgettable prom experience, centered around God's love, for people with special needs 14 and older. The Night to Shine event will be on Friday, February 13. All volunteers must be 16 or older on the day of the event. Each volunteer opportunity and a description of the duties can be found at this link https://fbcwaldorf.org/night-to-shine-volunteers2026/
Teaching Positions
Two teachers for the upcoming school year 2026/27: MS/HS English teacher and a 5th grade teacher. Calvary Baptist Church Academy is a Christian school in Glen Burnie, MD that focuses on excellence in education. We have about 375 students with classes from K3 through the 12th grade. Our students test higher than the national average. We have a good balance between teaching Christian principles and having a strong educational base. If you have anyone at your church who is looking for a teaching position at a Christian school, please forward this information to them or give me their information and I will reach out to them. If they would like more information about our school and the Glen Burnie, Maryland area, please direct them to our website at www.cbcaknights.org . There is also a virtual tour to tell them more about our school: https://www.cbcaknights.org/admissions/virtual-tour . Please feel free to pass on that information to anyone who is interested.
Photoshop Experience
If anyone has experience with creating print graphics in Photoshop and would be interested in helping with occasional administrative tasks, please contact the church office (office@weemscreek.com) or see Tracey Hawkins.
Elevator
Unfortunately, our elevator is out of service again.
Blessings,
Pastor Bryan
