Weekly Update, March 20th, 2026
Hi Church,
Spring has begun, as of 8:46am! After a cold winter, it is always nice to soak up the warmer weather. This Sunday, Brandon Sams will speak in Pastor Scott's Sunday school class about his church plant in Baltimore, which we are partnering with. Also, Brandon will share briefly during the 11am worship hour. God calls us to make disciples and starting new churches is vital to accomplishing the Great Commission.
Men’s Retreat
This year’s Men’s Retreat, Strengthened Together, will be a one-day event at Downs Park on April 11 from 10am-4pm. It will include fellowship, activities, lunch, and two teaching sessions led by Pastor Dan Hyun from the BCMD.
Session 1: Men anointed for greatness don’t make it alone. Friends strengthen our relationship with God and help shape us into the men He calls us to be.
Session 2: Spiritual maturity for men comes through intentionally pursuing Jesus together and becoming a healing brotherhood that points one another to God’s presence.
Cost is $40 but we never want that to prevent someone from attending. If finances are a concern, the Men’s Ministry would be glad to help support you. Please register in the church app where you can also pay, or sign up at the Connect Center.
Evangelism Training at Weems Creek
You are invited to participate in a FREE evangelism training hosted at Weems Creek Church from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm on Thursday, April 16. This training, led by trainers from the North American Mission Board and the Baptist Convention of Maryland/Delaware, will equip you to better share the Gospel with those around you. Three evangelism equipping options are available: Three Circles training, Next Gen training (to reach teens and college-aged students), and Confidently Share the Gospel with Kids training.
Registration is required in advance to receive a free Chick-Fil-A sandwich or salad for lunch, but the meal and event are free. To pre-register, go to https://bcmd.org/event/evangelism-training-2/.
Easter Egg Hunt
Our annual community Easter Egg Hunt will be March 28th from 2-3:30pm. There will be games, face painting, food, and 2 egg hunts based on age. Invite your friends, neighbors, and family as we provide a fun Easter event for children and share the true meaning of Easter. If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up in the church app or at the Connect Center.
Vacation Bible School – Registration is Open!
Culture claims to know about Jesus, but many people are in the dark about who He really is. Some might see Jesus as just a person from history or a good teacher – but Jesus is more than that! This summer, VBS will shine a light on the truth of who He really is. Meet us at Illumination Station for the brightest week of the year. Like the disciples, kids will discover Jesus is who Scripture says He is – the perfect, proven, and powerful Son of God. “Jesus spoke to them again: ‘I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.’” John 8:2
VBS 2026 Illumination Station will be Sunday June 28th through Thursday July 2nd from 6-8:30pm for children who have completed PreK 4 – 6th grade. Please register your children in the church app or at https://www.weemscreek.com/vbs2026
Next Women’s Bible Study
The Women’s ministry will be starting a new 6-week Bible study the week of April 5 and will be looking at the book of Ephesians using a study by Pastor JD Greear. Has it ever dawned on you that nothing has ever dawned on God? He knew before the world began that His people would face hardship, so He gave us His Word. The book of Ephesians is a survival manual; it equips believers to thrive in a world that hates the message of Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul writes to encourage believers to live well and be lifted above the graveyard of sin calling out the Gospel into the darkened world. Prayerfully consider joining one of our three study times. Sign up using the links below, in the church app or at the Connect Center. This allows us to be better prepared with materials.
· Tuesdays, 10-11:30am – Ephesians - Tuesdays
· Wednesdays, 6:30-8pm – Ephesians - Wednesdays
· Saturdays, 9:30-11am – Ephesians - Saturdays
Easter Services
The Good Friday service will start at 6:30pm. It will be a reflective service as we remember the ultimate sacrifice Jesus made for us.
Easter services will be at 9:30am and 11am with childcare (infants – PreK-4) available at both services. This will be a joyous celebration! There will be no Sunday School or Kids Worship that day.
Praying for Our Neighbors for Easter
Easter is a great time of year to start having spiritual conversations with our neighbors. Even those who are not very spiritual know that Easter is a big deal for Christians, so we should take advantage of that opportunity between now and April 5.
We have a tool called The Bless App that will help you start praying for your neighbors regularly. You sign up, enter your home address, and receive a daily reminder with a Bible verse to pray for 5 of your neighbors. You can adjust the number of people you pray for and the frequency of emails within the app. These regular reminders can also prompt each of us to be intentional about having Gospel conversations with people in our neighborhood.
Members at Weems Creek have adopted 1,140 neighbors for regular prayer. To join in praying for our community members by name, go to The Bless App to register. Join us in praying for the spiritual well-being of our neighbors.
Mixed Adult Bible Study
Join Pastor Scott as he looks at what the Bible says about making decisions based on Biblical wisdom. How do we balance decision making that honors God’s Word when faced with a rapidly changing culture, worldly influences that pull us from a Biblical worldview, and a schedule so busy that we are tempted to choose the easy choice instead of the wise one? Scripture offers insight on how to filter our decision-making process. Bring a Bible and join the study on Wednesdays at 6:30pm in room 102.
Protestants and Catholics Class
Last week we wrapped up the 3-week class about Protestants and Catholics. In the class, we discussed the history that led to the Protestant Reformation, areas of agreement, and then areas of disagreement about primary and secondary matters. If you want the notes, copies will be available at the Connect Center.
