Weekly Update, January 9th, 2025

Hi Church,

Baptism is a tremendous occasion as a person publicly declares their faith in Christ. Baptism is an encouragement for the individual as they walk in obedience to Christ's command and it encourages the church to hear about God's work in our midst. Typically, our baptisms are held during a Sunday morning worship service, but we also want to give opportunities for people to be baptized in another setting - on a Sunday night with a smaller crowd. If you are interested in a Sunday evening baptism, we plan to have a service on February 15th at 6pm. All candidates must correspond with me and finish their baptism testimony by February 8th. We are excited to hear more stories of God's work!

Women’s Retreat/Conference

Our Women’s Ministry is so excited about this year’s retreat! We will be joining other churches from across the state for a conference at Riva Trace Baptist Church. This conference, Can’t Stay Quiet, is based on Acts 4:20 – “for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard.” It’s designed to encourage and equip you to live boldly for Jesus. There will be keynote speakers, breakout sessions, worship, fellowship, and giveaways. There is something truly moving when a large group of women with the same focus come together to worship.

Join us Friday evening, March 6th and Saturday, March 7 (9am-3pm). Tickets are $45, which includes lunch. As a group, we must register by Feb. 15. Please sign up in the church app where you will be able to register, pay, and choose your lunch option. There will also be a signup sheet at the Connect Center.

New Members Class: Discovering Weems Creek

You are invited to join us for the New Members Class: Discovering Weems Creek on Sunday, January 18 at 12:15pm in the multipurpose room. This class is an excellent way to gain a closer look at the church's beliefs, mission, and opportunities of service and help you decide whether to pursue membership. This in an informational meeting; there is no commitment to membership. A light lunch will be provided and childcare, if needed. Please sign up in the church app or at the Connect Center.

Business Meeting

Our next business meeting will be January 28th at 6pm in room 102. We will be voting on the Nominating Committee report and the final chapters of the Personnel Manual. Copies of those chapters will be available next Sunday, 1/18 at the Connect Center. Please review them before the meeting and submit your suggestions, questions, or concerns to a committee member before the meeting. This allows the team to make changes before the meeting if necessary and they can address any concerns at the start of discussion.

Game On!

Please join us for a fun-filled afternoon of laughter, connection, and friendly competition on Saturday, January 31 from 2–4pm! We’ll enjoy team-building games, Minute-to-Win-It challenges, and plenty of fun for the whole family. Bring a friend, bring your game face, and come ready to laugh! Childcare for infants and toddlers (0-3 years) will be available upon request, so parents can relax and fully enjoy the fun. Sign up in the church app or at the Connect Center.

SonShiners Lunch and Planning Meeting

The SonShiners (55 ) will be gathering on Friday, Jan. 16th at noon in the multipurpose room for lunch and to plan activities for 2026. The church will provide pizza, salad, dessert and drinks. Bring you suggestions for activities! Sign up in the church app or at the Connect Center.

New Bible Studies – It’s Not Too Late!

The next round of mid-week Bible studies began this week but there’s still time to jump in. There are three studies to choose from:

The Women’s Bible study group will be studying The Gospel of John: Savoring the Peace of Jesus in a Chaotic World by Melissa Spoelstra. This class meets on Tuesdays (10am), Wednesdays (6:30pm), and Saturdays (9:30am). The cost of the book is $10 but do not let that keep you from coming. Register in the church app or at the Connect Center. You may also use these links: Tuesday Mornings, Wednesday Evenings, or Saturday Mornings

The Mixed Adult Bible study group meets on Wednesdays at 6:30pm. They will be using the video-based series, The Meaning of Marriage by Tim and Kathy Keller. This study challenges modern views of love and marriage and presents a hopeful, biblical vision rooted in God’s design for covenant, service, and commitment. Open to singles, engaged couples, and those married for any length of time. Cost of the book is $5. Register in the church app or at the Connect Center.

The Men’s Bible study will be studying 1 & 2 Corinthians. These letters provide valuable guidance and insight. By examining their content, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how these teachings can be implemented in everyday life. A study on spiritual gifts will also be included. This class meets on Wednesdays at 6:30pm in room 112. Registration is not required.
